Medical Management Specialists (MMS) is contractually obligated to protect the interests of our clients and their patients. We require our HIPAA Compliant Patient Authorization Form be completed prior to releasing patients' protected health information. 

 

Billing Compliance

MMS has developed and follows a strict Compliance Program to ensure full compliance with the many federal, state and local laws and standards that impact coding and billing.

We believe that the general public, our customers and our employees have a right to expect that we act ethically and honestly. We acknowledge our accountability by making audits available which ensure the rules of our Compliance Program are maintained. HIPAA Privacy Compliance as a business associate of health care providers covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and its implementing regulations at 45 CFR Parts 160 and 164. MMS has a contractual obligation to protect the privacy and security of the health information that it obtains on behalf of its clients defined as Protected Health Information (PHI) under HIPAA.

Our Compliance Officer develops, maintains, and oversees implementation of all HIPAA privacy policies and manuals. She administers and enforces all HIPAA privacy Compliance issues, conducts audits, and oversees HIPAA privacy education and documentation for all MMS associates. Our Compliance Program includes training for all employees, with routine monitoring to assess compliance with the requirements of individual work products and environment. We also provide ongoing monitoring of patient care documentation that we code for our clients and trended reports showing results of that monitoring. We implement these Health Information Privacy Policies and Procedures as a matter of sound business practice.

Security Compliance

MMS meets or exceeds all HIPAA requirements regarding electronic transaction security. All medical claims sent in electronic format by MMS, on behalf of its clients, meet the HIPAA Security Standards' criteria.

In addition, MMS has established secured connections for PHI transmitted to collection agencies for payments on behalf of MMS clients. MMS insures that PHI in motion (transfer) and at rest (storage) is encrypted.
